Welcome to the homepage of the Shinnan Butokukai of Christchurch New Zealand

We are a group promoting the correct practice of Budo in Christchurch. The formation of the Butokukai in 2010 was aimed at providing support and forming bonds with Budo dojos with similar philosophies. Butoku can be translated as "martial virtue" and member dojos of the Shinnan Butokukai all hold the principles and virtues of Budo to be the most important part of training. We are all aware of the difference between "Budo" and "martial arts" and we all do our best to pass on the teachings of our own Sensei as faithfully as possible.

The butokukai is an organisation to provide a common ground for all Japanese budo dojos who wish for a sharing of spirit and common goals. We do not interfere in any member dojos and each dojo should retain the unique heritage of their sensei's sensei's sensei's.........
